THE RECOVERY POSITION

To place a person in the recovery position kneel beside the person and:

  1. Place their closest arm to you, out to the side of the body at a right angle.

  2. Put the back of the patient's opposite hand next to their cheek closest to you and hold it there.
(The same side of the face/cheek as the right angle arm)

  3. Bend the far knee up with the foot flat on the ground, grasp the far leg and roll them towards you onto their side. Put the bent leg in a 90 degree angle to stop the patient from rolling.

  4. Tilt patient's head back to open airway.
